Campfire Audio updates Solaris, Andromeda IEMs – Darko.Audio

Campfire Audio has updated two of its higher-end IEM models for 2023 with new looks, reworked packaging, a trio of new ‘Time Stream’ cables and, of course, a new sound,
The Andromeda ‘Emerald Sea’ inherits the MMCX connectors and green finish of its predecessors but wears a slightly smaller earpiece with smoother edges for a more ergonomic fit ‘n’ feel. On the inside, five ‘Custom Dual Diaphragm’ balanced armature (BA) drivers play in a 2-1-2 formation – a pair for the low-end, one for the mids and a pair for the treble – and their output has been slightly altered for “a sweet analog glow”. Sensitivity has been lowered for compatibility with a broader range of electronics.
The Andromeda ‘Emerald Sea’ also brings with it revamped packaging, a leather carry case and three ‘Time Stream’ cables terminated with 3.5mm, 2.5mm TRRS balanced and 4.4mm Pentaconn balanced connectors. Pricing? US$1450.
Also enjoying an overhaul is the once-flagship Solaris, now shipping in a ‘Stellar Horizon’ variant that brings with it a more radical ergonomic and visual refresh. Per the press release, a “brushed stainless steel housing” that’s “accented by brass fasteners” where “machined steel with gold PVD inlays contrasts with black, laser-cut acrylic”.
Unlike the Andromeda strain of IEMs, Solaris is a hybrid design. The Stellar Horizon version sees a pair of Custom Dual Diaphragm BAs working the top-end, a single Custom Dual Diaphragm BA handling the midrange and, augmenting (almost) the entire frequency range, a full-range 10mm ADLC dynamic driver. The latter is surrounded by a new “radial venting” system that reportedly expands the driver’s physical space for “greater soundstage and improved dynamics”.
Like Andromeda ‘Emerald Sea’, Solaris ‘Stellar Horizon’ ships with three ‘Time Stream’ cables terminated with 3.5mm, 2.5mm TRRS balanced and 4.4mm Pentaconn balanced connectors at one end (and MMCX at the other) and a leather carry case. Pricing? US$2670.
