“Gone” is BLACKPINK member ROSÉ’s first original solo release, and showcases a mellifluous side of her while capturing the strengths of her soulful vocals. In this song, ROSÉ remembers a lover that is no longer around and the pain she experienced because of them.
A teaser was released on January 25, 2021. “Gone” was revealed to be a B-side from ROSÉ’s long-awaited solo album R when an article said the track would make its debut at BLACKPINK’s 2021 virtual concert THE SHOW. The first half of ROSÉ’s solo stage showcased the upcoming music video and the second half consisted of a live performance by ROSÉ and a guitarist. News came out that ROSÉ personally requested for the chance to perform her new song for her fans ahead of the album’s release in the concert after much deliberation with her agency.
On April 1, 2021, it was announced that ROSÉ would release the music video for “Gone” on April 5. The video contrasts two stages of a relationship, the beginning and the end. The first stage is portrayed with warm colors and a smiling ROSÉ; opposite to the dark and cold atmosphere in the final stage of the now past relationship, where ROSÉ is completely heartbroken over the breakup.
Find answers to frequently asked questions about the song and explore its deeper meaning
Just to be able to sing my song at the concert for my fans—that in itself is really exciting. I’m sure that a lot of my fans have been waiting, and they are really excited for it, so that’s very special.
The funny thing is I don’t think I have to think of a person, I think of myself in a moment where I would really want to say something to somebody, and I would try to reenact a moment in my life where I felt heartbroken, or where I felt very vulnerable, I think I tried to tune into that voice of myself. You have several voices in your head, there are some voices that are like, ‘I’m in a dark place here, help me out,’ and then there’s a voice like, ‘go ROSÉ!’ in my head. It’s that [former] voice that I try to bring out in me and I try to tune into that, and try to be as honest as I can, it’s almost like acting for me, I don’t want to be that person who just forces an emotion, I just want to be another version of myself.
